Fancy Tulip - Pop-Up Card with Origami

Fancy tulip card. Do it youself. Papercraft with kids

This fancy card looks harder to make than it actually is: even a preschooler can make this card! Despite the fact that it’s easy to make this card it looks very cool, just like all the other “cards with a surprise”. Cards like this can be a universal gift, you can give this to your Grandma, teacher, to your friend for their birthday, and of course your mother, as a mother’s day gift.

Try to make this card now: you probably have the materials and it takes no longer than 30 minutes to make!

You will need:

  • Colored paper
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • (optional) glitter

First make the flower, to do so you will need to trace a plate or something round onto a sheet of colored paper, then cut it out.

If your child already knows how to use a compass then they can use that.

Bend the circle in half.

Unfold and fold it another time, but this time the first fold must be where it is on the photo.

Unfold it again and fold it in half (the previous folds are marked with red lines). Do that again. Unfold it, and you should notice that the circle is divided into 8 segments.

Now fold the circle: 2 segments should be at the bottom, 2 on each side and 2 at the top. Fold 2 ends of the circle into the middle. Unfold and you should have a circle with a pattern like shown in the photo.

Now fold it in half so the folds are where they are on the photo. Draw 4 petals on one side of the half circle. Cut them out and you should get a flower.

Now combine the smallest segments of the flower’s petals, folding them into the center of the flower, and turn it into a heart shaped tulip.

Now you will need to decorate the inside of the flower: you can either just color it with pencils/markers or you can decorate it with glitter. To decorate it with glitter put glue on the edges of the flower and sprinkle them with glitter. You should also consider tracing the inside folds with a marker. Fold the flower into the heart again. Now we are going to make the card itself. To do that measure the diameter of the thing that you traced to make the circle, the plate in the example has a diameter of 20 cm, which means that the card should be 20 cm long and 10 cm tall (to find the height divide the diameter by two).

Put glue on one side of the flower and glue it onto the card, then glue the other side of the flower onto the card. Everything must be glued on carefully and securely. Now close the card and decorate the covers however you want to.
